Job Stories From Andover, MA
Basement Waterproofing, Andover, MA

Ron E. is a homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts who had been experiencing a wet basement. Since this is a finished basement, rugs and other personal items have been damaged whenever flooding occurs. This space is used as a playroom for Ron's grandchildren, and he is worried that the leaking from cracks in the basement will ruin the space. Ron trusted our Erickson Foundation Solutions team to create a permanent solution for his problem.

After scheduling an appointment through one of our Customer Care Specialists, a Design Specialist went out to Ron's home to complete a free inspection. After completing the inspection, we recommended installing perimeter drainage and a sump pump to safely dispose water away from the home. After our Design Specialist explained how the waterproofing system would keep the basement dry, Ron scheduled our installation crew to get the job done. Joe Rosato and his crew started by chipping cement around the perimeter of the basement. Once removed, the crew placed crushed stone and the WaterGuard perimeter drainage system in place. Then, we created a basin for our TripleSafe sump pump to rest in. Once we connected our WaterGuard system to the sump pump, we cemented the system in place. An exterior drainage line was installed to the sump pump, which was buried in the ground, ultimately leading water a safe distance away from the home.

As a result, the basement was now waterproofed. Now, Ron has peace of mind knowing that his grandchildren have a safe and dry space to play.

Watering Entering Basement, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts had noticed water entering their finished basement in a few places, which was causing them concern as they enjoyed using the basement to entertain guests. They had previously used Connecticut Basement Systems to waterproof their basement in Connecticut and reached out to the closest dealer of Basement Systems products in their area, which happened to be Erickson Foundation Solutions, for a free inspection.

During the inspection, our Design Specialist Nikki Burke examined the basement and recommended a permanent solution to prevent water from entering the basement and to improve its appearance. She suggested installing a system consisting of WaterGuard, TrenchDrain, TripleSafe, IceGuard, SaniDry Sedona, and ThermalDry Flooring.

Our installation team led by Anthony LoCascio began the work by chipping out 50 feet of concrete along the perimeter wall of the basement. This was necessary to install the perimeter drainage and sump pump system to keep the basement dry. We installed our WaterGuard, TrenchDrain, and TripleSafe flush with the slab and then installed pumps and plumbed them outside the home. We also installed IceGuard and buried the Exterior Drainage Line to carry water away from the foundation wall and prevent it from re-entering the basement. Once the perimeter drainage system was installed, we mixed up concrete and poured it over the perimeter drainage and around the sump pump basin to lock the system into place.

After the perimeter drainage system was installed and the concrete cured, our team started prepping to install the ThermalDry Flooring over the slab. The flooring snaps together and does not require nails or adhesive. Finally, we installed the SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier next to the sump pump and discharged the collected moisture into the TripleSafe. The homeowner was very satisfied with the outcome of the project, and they no longer have to worry about water issues in their basement.

Finished Basement Ruined by Water Seepage, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts, had been living in their home for over 20 years. They had been noticing random seepage in both their finished and unfinished basement areas, which has caused damage to the floors, finished walls, and other items. The homeowners were tired of dealing with the water issue and reached out to EFS for a free inspection of their basement. Our Design Specialist, Tom Armano, met with the homeowners to discuss their concerns and inspected the basement to find a permanent solution. Tom looked at both the finished and unfinished sections of the basement to propose the best solution, which included installing 130 feet of WaterGuard, 4 feet of TrenchDrain WaterGuard, a TripleSafe, 2 IceGuards, 25-foot Exterior Drainage Line, SaniDry Sedona, and Elite Plank into the basement. This would protect the basement from water and allow moisture to flow beneath the new flooring.

Our installation team, led by Gunther Billhardt, began by chipping out concrete along the perimeter of the basement so we could install our perimeter drainage and sump pump. After that, we removed some soil to ensure that the drainage and sump pump lay flush with the concrete slab. The drainage would collect water from any point around and guide it to the sump pump, which would then pump it out. On the exterior of the home, we installed two IceGuards and 25 feet of Exterior Drainage Line to carry water away from the foundation of the home. Next, the team mixed concrete and poured it over the perimeter drainage and around the sump pump basin to lock the system into place. After the concrete had cured, the team installed the new Elite Plank Flooring. The flooring would snap together without the use of nails, making it easy to install over the concrete slab.

After the project was complete, our team walked the homeowners through everything that was installed. The homeowners were very happy with the results of the project and didn't have to worry about water entering the basement anymore.

Water Seeping into Basement, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts had been living in their house for the past five years. Although they had a sump pump and drain installed in their basement, the water was still collecting there. After several years of experiencing this issue, they decided to find a better solution to prevent the water from entering their basement. The homeowners suspected that the water might be coming in from the bulkhead near the existing sump pump. Consequently, they reached out to EFS for a free inspection of their basement.

Our Design Specialist, Nikki Burke, met with the homeowners and inspected the basement to find a solution to prevent water from seeping in. After the inspection, Nikki recommended installing WaterGuard, TrenchDrain, Drop Down Duct, IceGuard, SuperSump, CleanSpace, and CleanSpace Wall into the basement to prevent water from entering.

Our installation team began by removing the old sump pump and chipping out the landing it was installed on. After that, we installed perimeter drainage and our SuperSump. We then plumbed the sump pump to the exterior of the home where we installed two IceGuards and our exterior drainage line. This will carry the water away from the foundation wall so that it cannot re-enter the home.

Next, our team removed the wooden bulkhead stairs so that we could install our CleanSpace and Drop Down Ducts. The bulkhead had some steps that didn't build up to the top of the bulkhead. To ensure that water wouldn't collect at the top of the stairs, we installed the ducts to allow the water to flow down toward the sump pump. After installing the ducts, we installed TrenchDrain under the door of the bulkhead and some interior drainage to carry the water to the sump pump which was a couple of feet away. After the ducts and drainage were installed, we then encapsulated the bulkhead area with CleanSpace and CleanSpace Wall.

After encapsulating the bulkhead, the crew mixed concrete to cover the drainage and around the basin of the sump pump. Finally, the team cleaned up all of their tools and their work area. The homeowners were thrilled with the results of the project and no longer had to worry about water seeping into their basement.

Prevent Water from Entering the Garage and Basement, Andover, MA

A homeowner living in Andover, Massachusetts had been residing in their home for the past six years. However, this year they noticed water in their garage and basement, as well as mold on the wall that connects the two spaces. Distressed about their storage items and their babies' safety, they reached out to EFS for a free inspection of their basement and garage. Our Design Specialist, Isaac Hernandez, met with the homeowner and thoroughly inspected both areas. He discovered that the water first entered the garage and then flowed down the wall and into the basement. To prevent this from happening again, Isaac suggested installing WaterGuard, TripleSafe, Feed Line, IceGuard, and Exterior Drainage Line systems to prevent water from entering the basement/garage.

Our installation team, led by Anthony LoCascio, first chipped out concrete along the foundation wall. After that, the team removed some soil from beneath the slab so that they could install our perimeter drainage and sump pump. Once installed along the foundation wall, the team linked the sump pump and drainage, allowing the water to flow into the WaterGuard and then travel down into the TripleSafe before being pumped outside. On the exterior of the house, we installed two IceGuards and 45 feet of buried exterior drainage line away from the foundation, ensuring that water would not re-enter the home. After the exterior drainage was installed, the team mixed up concrete and poured it over the perimeter drainage and around the sump pump to lock everything in place.

The homeowners were thrilled with the results of the project and no longer had to worry about water entering their garage and basement.

Water Entering Garage From Driveway, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts was facing the issue of water entering their garage during heavy rains. The rainwater was trickling down the driveway and collecting inside the garage, which was causing inconvenience to the homeowner. The existing pump was not functioning, so the homeowner contacted EFS and spoke to our Service Coordinator, Jen, who scheduled a service appointment. Our Service Technician, Justin Colin, arrived at the home and started servicing the pump. As he was cleaning out the system, he noticed that there was only one pump installed. We recommended installing at least two pumps, a primary and a backup, to avoid any future mishap. Justin got the pump working again to pump water out of the basement and suggested a solution to prevent water from continuing to collect on the garage floor.

Justin recommended installing a sump pump with two pumps and a second layer of drainage at the mouth of the garage. The homeowner agreed with Justin's proposal, and we installed an UltraSump and 10' of TrenchDrain at the mouth of the garage. This would collect all the water before it could sit all over the garage floor. The homeowner was extremely happy with the results of their service call and installation of their new sump pump and drainage system.

Radon System Installed into Home, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts, has lived in their home for the past two years. They were talking with their neighbor this summer and they told them that they had high radon levels inside their home and they were installing a radon system in their home. The homeowners then researched what radon was and decided to call EFS for a radon inspection. Our Design Specialist met with the homeowners and dropped off a radon test kit to check the levels inside the home. The test results came back above the recommended and our Design Specialist recommended installing a radon mitigation system into the home. The homeowner had also asked about replacing the sump pump in the basement with a new one.

Our installation team met with the homeowners on our scheduled installation day and installed the radon mitigation system with a single extraction point into the basement. After the system was installed and vented above the roofline we then began to replace the old sump pump with our new TripleSafe. With our radon system and new sump pump installed the homeowners don't have to worry about radon or water inside their home.

Cracks in Foundation Wall, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts, had noticed two cracks in their foundation wall that had gotten bigger over the years. The cracks had gotten large enough now to let water into the basement after long periods of rain. The homeowners decided to call EFS for a free inspection of their foundation. Our Design Specialist Liam FitzPatrick met with the homeowners and then inspected the foundation of the home. After his inspection, Liam found that the cracking of the foundation was caused by the foundation settling at the front left corner of the home. Liam recommended installing FlexiSpan to seal the cracks in the foundation walls and then installing 8 Push Piers around the left corner of the home. At first, Liam proposed installing all 8 of the piers to be installed from the exterior of the home so we didn't have to chip out the concrete slab in the basement. Still, the homeowner wanted to preserve the bushes at the front of their home so they opted for the 4 of the piers to be installed from the inside the basement.

Our Installation Team led by Neal Foley began by installing the FlexiSpans over the two cracks on the foundation wall before chipping out the slab in the basement so we could install the 4 Push Piers inside the basement. After the piers were installed inside the basement the team then exposed the foundation of the exterior of the home to then installed the 4 Push Piers on the outside of the home. After the foundation was stabilized by the 8 Push Piers the team backfilled over the piers on the interior and exterior of the foundation. Then they mixed up concrete and poured it over the piers inside the basement.

The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the project. They were even happier that they didn't have to rip up the bushes at the front of their home.

Homeowner Wanted to Lower Radon Levels Inside Home, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts, purchased their home in 2019. The house was tested for radon during the pre-purchase inspection. The results of the test came back with an average of 5.3 pCi/L. The homeowners didn't immediately install a radon system because of the financial burden of buying the home. Now in 2023, the homeowners called EFS for an inspection and radon test of their home. Our Design Specialist Tom Armano met with the homeowner and designed a radon mitigation system for them to lower the radon levels in the home.

Our Installation Team led by Branden Edwards began by creating a radon extraction point in the basement slab of the home. The extraction point will allow radon-filled air to be collected by the PVC pipe that we attached to the extraction point. The PVC pipe was then guided to the outside of the home where we installed a radon fan to the side of the home. The PVC pipe was connected to the radon fan and then vented above the roofline of the home. After the system was fully installed and running for an entire week our team gave the homeowner a radon test kit to retest the levels within the home. The homeowner performed their test and found the results to be well below 4.0 pCi/L. The homeowners were very pleased with the result of the project.

2nd Radon System Installed, Andover, MA

This homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts, had EFS install a radon system into their home last year. After the system was installed last year the radon levels were below 4.0 pCi/L. A year later they welcomed a child into their lives and checked the radon levels in their home again. After the home again they observed that the radon levels were once again above 4.0 pCi/L. The homeowners reached out to EFS for an inspection of their home again. Our Design Specialist Mark Proctor met with the homeowner and recommended installing a second radon mitigation system to the opposite end of the home to capture the most amount of radon possible.

Our Installation Team led by Branden Edwards began by creating an extraction point in the basement so we could pull radon from under the home. After the extraction point was made, the team then connected the PVC pipe to the extraction point and plumbed the PVC to the exterior of the home. Once to the exterior of the home the team installed a radon fan to the side of the home and linked the PVC pipe to the fan. After the fan was installed for a week the homeowner test the home again to make sure the levels were below 4.0 pCi/L, which they were.

The homeowner was pleased with the result of the project.

Water Entering Through Fieldstone Foundation, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts, had lived in their home for 4 years and had always had water coming through the fieldstone foundation when it rains. The homeowners don't like having to clean up every time it leaks. They planned on keeping the home until their kids graduate from high school, which is another 12-15 years. Before then they planned on finishing the basement to create so more usable space but they didn't want to worry about water entering the basement. They reached out to EFS for a free inspection and our Design Specialist Kenny inspected the home and recommended a full perimeter drainage system complete with wall encapsulation to prevent water from entering the basement.

The homeowners decided they didn't need the walls of the basement encapsulated but were interested in the perimeter drainage system with the sump pump. Kenny also recommended a radon system since they were going to be spending time in the basement when they added the finished space down there. The homeowners agreed with the installation of the radon system.

So our production team installed a full perimeter WaterGuard system and a TripleSafe Sump into the basement along with a radon extraction point. The radon extraction point was connected to PVC pipes which were connected to the radon fan that was installed on the exterior of the home.

The homeowner was happy that they no longer have to worry about water entering their basement. With everything installed and the basement now a safe and dry space, the homeowner can now proceed with the finishing of their basement.

Replacing Sump in Basement to Begin Using Space for a Gym, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts, had an existing sump pump in their basement in their late 1800s home. The homeowner purchased the home in June 2022 and had a home inspector in their home over the summer. The inspector looked at the entire home and saw some things in the basement that the homeowner should think about getting looked at. The homeowner decided to call EFS for a free inspection, and our Design Specialist Kenny recommended installing a TripleSafe sump pump and an IceGuard in the basement.

Our production team began by removing the old sump pump from under the staircase in the basement. Once the old pump was removed the team used the existing hole where the old sump pump was to install the New TripleSafe. To install the TripleSafe the team needed to slightly deepen and expand the hole where the old sump pump was installed. The team inserted and plumbed the new TripleSafe into the basement. The team plumbed the drainage line through some wooden shelves to get to the sill and extend the exterior drainage line 10' away from the home. The team buried the drainage line about a foot under the dirt to conceal it. Once everything was installed the team used a little bit of concrete around the basin of the SuperSump to create a smooth edge around the sump pump.

The homeowner was happy with the installation of the sump pump and planned on setting up their basement to put some workout equipment down there.

Crack in Garage Slab, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts, had a crack that was progressively getting bigger every year for the past 10 years. The home was built in the 1960s and the owners have lived there for the past 20 years. Over the past couple of years, the crack hasn't changed and they would like to have it repaired. Our design specialist Stephen carefully looked at the garage floor. He noticed the crack in the garage floor right away, then he took careful measurements of the garage floor and found that the slab is out of level. Stephen recommended installing PolyLevel under the garage slab to level it and using NexusPro to seal the cracks.

Our PolyLevel team led by Nick M. first started the project by drilling port holes into the garage slab. After all of the holes are drilled, the team used PolyLevel to fill any void under the slab. In the front of the garage slab where the big crack is, the team had to use slab jacks to keep the two sections of the concrete level.

The team was able to level the concrete and seal the cracks in the slab.

Leaning Retaining Wall, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts, had a retaining wall in their backyard that was leaning. The wall was 16' long and 4' high and had stairs at the end. Our design specialist examined the leaning retaining wall and recommended installing Geolocks. Geolocks are big metal plates that can straighten a wall using soil.

Our production team installed two Geolocks on the end of the retaining wall. First, the team dug a trench 10' away from the retaining wall. Then the team drilled a road through the dirt from the retaining wall to the trench. The team then attached the plates on both sides of the rod and proceeded to pressurize the rod, and they were able to straighten the wall. The team backfilled the trench to finish the project and cleaned up the job site.

Mouth of Garage to be Lifted and Leveled, Andover, MA

A homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts, had installed new garage doors. When the new garage doors were shut, the homeowner noticed a gap between the floor and the garage door. The homeowner is worried about critters coming into the garage. The homeowner contacted Erickson Foundation Solution about a free inspection.

Design Specialist Brian Swindell inspected the concerns the homeowner had with their garage. Brian found that the gap between the garage door and the concrete was between 1-2". Brian felt that PolyLevel would be the most cost-effective choice. Brian recommended installing PolyLevel near the mouth of the garage to lift the slab to eliminate the gap.

Crew Lead Tyler Oslizlo injected PolyLevel into the front of the garage and lifted the front of the garage 2" to meet the bottom of the garage door. Tyler then proceeded to fill the void under the remainder of the slab.

Moisture Concerns in Basement, Andover, MA

This homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts had concerns about moisture in their half-finished half unfinished basement. They want to have control of the moisture in their basement. They have a dehumidifier in their second home and would like to look into having one in this home. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection.

Design Specialist Tom Armano inspected the basement. He agreed with the homeowners' thought that there is too much moisture in the basement. He recommended having a SaniDry system installed in the basement. The homeowner had asked Tom if it was possible to have the SaniDry drain into an existing condensation pump and Tom told the customer that it wouldn't be a problem.

Crew Lead Dillion Kingsbury and his team installed the SaniDry into the basement. They were able to tie in the drainage line of the SaniDry to the condensation pump. The homeowner was impressed with the capability of the Sanidry in a large space.

Foundation Crack Repair, Andover, MA

This homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts was looking to sell their home. The homeowner had two small cracks in their foundation wall that they would like sealed before they show their home. They decided to call Erickson Foundation Solutions for a free inspection.

Design Specialist Ryan Flynn inspected the cracks to see if they were actively moving or not. Ryan thinks the cracks aren't moving but recommended installing a crack monitor to each crack to see if they move. Along with the crack monitors, Ryan recommended sealing the cracks using Injection Crack Sealant.

Crew Lead Ed Nadreau and his team sealed 8' of cracks using Injection Crack Sealant and installed a crack monitor on each crack.

Radon Mitigation System and Crack Seal, Andover, MA

A new homeowner in Andover, Massachusetts has owned their house for 3 months when they noticed a vertical crack that was leaking in the basement. The homeowner inferred that the crack was caused by a downspout right above the crack. The homeowner called Erickson Foundation Supportworks for a Design Specialist to give them a quote. The Design Specialist found that in addition to the crack in the basement that there was also a radon test that showed the pCi/l was at 4.2. The recommended amount is under 4.0 pCi/l.

The Design Specialist, Brain Allen, was able to design a Radon system for this home. After the designing process, all the information is passed to a Crew Lead. The Crew Lead and his team went to the home and installed the Radon Mitigation System and sealed the crack in the foundation. The crack was sealed and the radon system was successfully installed.
