Temporary Support Column Causing Floor to Sag
As the homeowners began an upstairs renovation project, they noticed significant floor sagging and wanted to ensure the structural integrity of the floor system before proceeding with the remodel. While these posts can provide short-term stabilization, they are not engineered for long-term structural support and can shift, settle, or lose effectiveness over time. To properly address the issue and restore stability to the floor system, a permanent support solution was necessary. Our team recommended installing a professionally engineered support system designed to provide lasting strength, improve load distribution, and prevent further floor deflection.
Concrete and Soil Removal
To provide a stable foundation for the support system, sections of concrete and underlying soil were carefully excavated. This preparation allowed for the construction of properly sized, load-bearing footings capable of supporting the SmartJack® system. Establishing these engineered footings helps ensure the weight of the structure is evenly distributed to competent soil, providing long-term stability and preventing future settlement.
Footings with Rebar
Engineered concrete footings were poured and reinforced with a steel rebar grid to enhance their load-bearing capacity and structural durability. The integrated reinforcement helps resist cracking and distributes loads more effectively, creating a strong, stable foundation capable of supporting the SmartJack® system and providing long-term performance.
Footings Leveled
Once cured, the footings were carefully leveled to create a uniform, stable bearing surface for the SmartJack® system. Ensuring a precisely level installation surface is critical for proper load transfer, maximizing the performance of the support posts and providing reliable, long-term stabilization of the floor system.
SmartJacks
The SmartJack® support system was installed on the fully cured, reinforced footings and connected to a supplemental beam designed to provide additional support to the floor joists. Each SmartJack® post features an adjustable top bracket, allowing our team to make precise adjustments to correct floor deflection and achieve optimal load distribution. Once accurately positioned, the system was secured to the foundation floor, creating a permanent structural support solution. This installation restored stability to the floor system, reduced sagging, and provided long-term protection against future settlement and structural movement.
