Sinking Concrete Stairs
The homeowner's concrete stairs experienced differential settlement, causing them to sink and separate from the porch structure. This displacement resulted in uneven treads and risers, creating a significant trip hazard and compromising overall safety.
Access Ramp Trip Hazards
The access ramp exhibited uneven concrete slabs resulting from soil settlement. This differential movement compromised both safety and ADA accessibility standards, necessitating precise leveling and long-term stabilization to restore structural integrity and usability.
Lifting Stairs with Slab Jacks
The section adjacent to the stairs was removed to allow access for slab jacks, which were employed to lift and re-level the settled stair assembly. An engineered steel I-beam was secured to the jacks to distribute lifting forces evenly, enabling a controlled elevation of approximately 3 inches and precise realignment of the stair structure.
Stabilizing Concrete Stairs
PolyLevel®, a high-density polyurethane foam, was injected beneath the concrete stairs to address underlying voids caused by soil settlement. This material expands to fill gaps and create a stable load-bearing base, effectively halting further movement and ensuring the stairs remain properly aligned for long-term performance.
Access Ramp Repair
The same stabilization process was applied to the access ramp. PolyLevel® was strategically injected beneath the individual concrete slabs to lift, level, and restore structural integrity. This eliminated uneven transitions and trip hazards, ensuring long-term safety and compliance with accessibility standards.
Concrete Joint Repair
NexusPro® was applied to seal the concrete joints, creating a durable, weather-resistant barrier that prevents water infiltration beneath the slabs. By mitigating moisture-related soil erosion and freeze-thaw damage, this joint sealant provides an added layer of protection, ensuring the slabs remain stable and in position for the long term.
Stair and Access Ramp Restoration
Following the successful completion of the repair process, the excavated area was fully restored to its original condition. The homeowner now enjoys a structurally sound and aesthetically refined patio, ensuring safe functionality and long-term visual appeal.
