A homeowner in Alton, NH, with a young child, aims to convert their basement into a finished area, possibly a media room. Following a radon test, which revealed a level of 4.7 pCi/L—a figure exceeding the safe limit of 4.0 pCi/L—they sought to safeguard their home against this hazardous gas and reached out to Erickson Foundation Solutions for assistance. Following a consultation with our System Design Specialist, we scheduled the project. The team successfully installed the radon mitigation system, which included an extraction point in the basement, a fan to circulate the gas, and PVC pipes extending from the basement to above the roofline. To ensure the home was safeguarded against radon, a manometer was installed in the basement to monitor any fluctuations in radon levels. With this protection in place, the family can now proceed to create the finished basement they have always envisioned.

Radon Gas Mitigation Systems

Radon gas is colorless, odorless, and as cancer-causing as to//bacco and asbestos. Radon gas is produced from the decaying of rocks and soil and comes up from the ground into your crawlspace and basements. The way our radon mitigation systems works in a pipe collects the gases that are coming from the soil. The gas is then piped upwards where a depressurization vent forces the radon out from your home. Our radon mitigation system is completely compatible with the current waterproofing system in your home. Job Stories From Alton, NH
Stabilizing Sunken Kitchen Floor in Alton, NH

Recently, in the scenic setting of Alton, NH, we had the privilege to help a homeowner who was facing a considerable problem with their home. They were planning a kitchen remodel within the next few years but realized the heart of their home was situated on floors that had significantly sunk and settled – not an ideal base for any renovation. Understanding the importance of stable and level floors before starting their remodel, they reached out to us.

Their initial contact with our supportive Customer Care team led to scheduling a comprehensive home inspection. System Design Specialist Jason Vachon from our Sales Team was soon at their door, thoroughly inspecting the problem areas and diagnosing the underlying issues. The solution prescribed? Our trusted SmartJack system – a proven solution for addressing and correcting issues of floor stability and support. Our team of skilled installers, led by experienced foreman Neal Foley, got to work to revitalize the home's foundation. Installing the SmartJack system allowed us to directly tackle the problem of the sunken and settled floors, ensuring they were not only stabilized but also levelled out as required. The success of our process does not end with the solution. Ensuring a clean and tidy environment upon job completion is part of our commitment to a remarkable customer experience.

The transformation of the floors left the homeowner amazed by the difference. No longer did they have to stress over uneven floors complicating their upcoming remodel. Instead, their house was made safe, stable, and fully prepared, setting the perfect foundation for all future projects.

Add Supports and Waterproofing into Basement, Alton, NH

A homeowner in Alton, New Hampshire has owned their property for over a decade. Recently, they observed that the basement supports were no longer holding up the floor system as effectively as before. They contacted Erickson Foundation Solutions to inspect the basement. Jason Vachon, our Design Specialist, met with the homeowner and thoroughly inspected the basement to identify any underlying issues. Jason determined that aside from installing new supports, the basement had an unacceptably high moisture level. To address this issue, Jason recommended installing a TripleSafe and a SandiDry Sedona Dehumidifier in the basement.

Eric Witham led our Installation Team, who began by setting up temporary posts in the basement to remove the old supports. The team then constructed three footings on the basement floor to accommodate our big plate footings for our SmartJacks. Once the footings were installed, they set the SmartJack supports into the footing and attached our adjustable bracket and Supplement beam to support the floor system. After installing the SmartJacks, the team installed the TripleSafe in the lowest corner of the basement to collect water and pump it out before it entered the basement. Following the sump installation, the SaniDry Sedona was installed next to the sump. The dehumidifier takes moisture out of the air, and then the discharge line feeds right into the sump pump basin, making it unnecessary to empty the dehumidifier.

The homeowner was very satisfied with the project's results. They no longer have to worry about the floor system or water entering their basement.

Foundation Settling, Alton, NH

A homeowner in Alton, New Hampshire, was the first owner of their home that was built in 1987. A few months ago they had started to feel like their 1st and 2nd floors were settling. They decided to call EFS and get the foundation looked at by some experts. Our Design Specialist Jason inspected the home and recommended installing 7 Helical Piers to stabilize the foundation and chimney and NexusPro to seal any cracks.

Our team began by exposing the footing of the foundation from the basement. Once the foundation was exposed, the team drove in our Helical Piers until they reached a predetermined pressure by project managers. Once our piers were at the correct pressure the team then inserted our bracket over our pier and then secured the pier to the footing of the foundation. Once capped and secured the team then covered the piers with dirt and repoured the concrete they chipped out. While the concrete was curing the team sealed 20' of cracks with NexusPro.

The homeowner was very pleased with the results of the project.

Radon Levels Increasing, Alton, NH

A homeowner in Alton, New Hampshire, had lived in their home for an entire year. Before they moved into their home it was tested for radon. The levels were around tested 5.5 pCi/L in December 2021. Then in February 2023, the homeowner decided to test the house again to see if anything had changed. The test results came back at 7.1 pCi/L. With the radon levels increasing the homeowner decided to call EFS for a radon appointment. Our Design Specialist Jason recommended installing a Radon Mitigation System in the home's basement to collect radon air from beneath the house and push it out of the home and into the open air.

Our Installation Team began by creating an extraction point in the basement. The team cut a circular hole in the corner of the basement so we could fit PVC pipe into it. The PVC pipe will carry radon-filled air to the radon fan. The team installed the radon fan on the exterior of the home. The fan will draw the radon from beneath the home and into the PVC pipe and then push it out above the roofline.

The radon system we installed was able to reduce the radon levels in the home to below 4.0 pCi/L. The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the project.
