Replacing a Broken Sump Pump System in Concord, MA

At Erickson Foundation Solutions, we recently had the privilege of turning a nagging problem for a homeowner in Concord, MA into a success story that adds to our legacy of providing durable and trustworthy home fixes. Our journey began with a call from a homeowner who was grappling with an all-too-common issue: a failed sump pump. The aging equipment in their basement was unable to keep up with the water accumulation, essential for maintaining a dry and healthy basement, especially during those rainy seasons.

Upon their call, we quickly sprang into action. Our Customer Care team promptly scheduled an at-home inspection. A visit from our System Design Specialist, Mark Proctor, not only confirmed the issue but also gave us a clear pathway for a resolution. The diagnosis: replacing the failed sump pump with a system that wouldn't just work, but outlast and outperform. We introduced the homeowner to our recommended solution - the TripleSafe Sump Pump equipped with IceGuard. The TripleSafe Sump Pump ensures three levels of protection, making it virtually fail-proof. Meanwhile, the IceGuard system is uniquely designed to prevent freezing during those harsh winter months, a problem often overlooked until it's too late. Our well-equipped installation team, led by Mike Lyall, took the helm from there. With a perfect blend of skill and courtesy, they installed the comprehensive solution, testing to ensure perfection. Beyond the actual installation, leaving the homeowner's space clean and disturbance-free was part of our commitment, which we fulfilled with due diligence.

Now, the homeowner in Concord can rest easy, knowing that basement moisture and rising groundwater are issues of the past. Our successful intervention not only helped solve their immediate water problem but did so with a permanent solution that won’t call for frequent revisits or replacements.

Preparing for Finished Basement, Concord, MA

Ross and Angelina G. of Concord, Massachusetts have a half-finished basement and are looking to fully finish it in the near future. Although they don't get water that often, minimal seepage occurs through their foundation during heavy rains. Knowing the importance of waterproofing the basement before finishing it, they reached out to Erickson Foundation Solutions.

After scheduling a free inspection through our Customer Care team, one of our Design Specialists, Mark Proctor went out to the home. Mark discussed a range of solutions that met Ross and Angelina's needs. Mark's final recommendation was installing WaterGuard perimeter drainage and TripleSafe sump pump system. The installation crew chipped out concrete along the perimeter of the basement slab in order to make space for the WaterGuard system. Once the concrete was removed, this drainage system was installed on top of crushed stone. This system is used to collect water before entering the basement and then divert it to the sump pump system. Next, our crew created a basin for the TripleSafe to sit in. This basin sits at the low point of the basement, allowing water to flow to it. Once the basin is made, the sump pump is installed and connected to the WaterGuard system. Once these systems are installed, they are cemented in place. In order for water to be pumped out of the home, and exterior discharge line was installed to the sump pump system. Within that plumbing system, IceGuard was installed. IceGuard is a discharge system that prevents water from freezing in the pipes. This guarantees that your sump pump will not get backed up and flood.

Crew lead Gunther Billhardt went over a final walkthrough with the homeowners once all the work was complete to ensure their satisfaction and answer any questions they had. Ross and Angelina were very excited that they can finish their basement knowing that it will stay dry!

Stabilizing Home With SmartJack, Concord, MA

Ross and Beth noticed a few years ago that the area around their fridge was beginning to sink. Even though there were already older Lally columns in the house, they noticed that this sinking gradually increased over the years. With them potentially selling the house in the near future, they were concerned and wanted to protect their investment.

After one of our Design Specialists thoroughly inspected the house, he recommended using SmartJacks to stabilize the floor. Once our team came and installed the SmartJacks, the floor was then level and supported.

Now that these homeowners have a permanent solution for the sagging floors, they have confidence in selling their house and providing a stable home to the lucky buyer.

Water In Rental Property Basement, Concord, MA

The owner of a rental property in Concord, Massachusetts, has owned the property for the past two years. Whenever it rained, they noticed water in the front right corner of the basement, and during heavy storms, the basement would flood. To protect themselves and their tenants, the owner called EFS for a free inspection of the building. Our Design Specialist, Mark Proctor, inspected the basement and recommended installing a full perimeter drainage system to prevent water from penetrating the basement.

Our installation team, led by Nick Carelli, began by chipping out concrete along the perimeter of the fieldstone basement. We chipped out approximately 150 feet of concrete to install our new sump pump and perimeter drainage. After the chipping was complete, Nick and his team installed our TripleSafe and plumbed it outside so we could pump out any water while they were working. Our team then moved on to installing 140 feet of WaterGuard, which we installed around the entire perimeter, integrating the drainage into the sump pump. This ensures that any water inside the perimeter drainage is guided to the sump pump and pumped out and away from the home.

After the drainage was installed and integrated into the sump, we moved outside to install our IceGuard and exterior drainage. The IceGuard prevents the system from backing up into the basement, and the EDL carries the water away from the foundation wall, preventing the water removed from the basement from re-entering it. Finally, our team returned to the basement to mix concrete to pour over the WaterGuard and around the TripleSafe basin. Once cured, this will lock the system into place, allowing the homeowner to return their storage items where they were before.

After the crew cleaned up, they took the owner on a walkthrough of the project. The owner was pleased that they and their tenants wouldn't have to deal with water in the basement anymore.

Water Entering the Basement, Concord, MA

A resident of Concord, Massachusetts had been living in their home since the early 90s. In the first 15 years of ownership, they had never seen water in their basement. However, in the last couple of years, they have experienced a lot of water entering their basement during rainy periods. To deal with this problem, the homeowner used a shop vac to remove the water from the basement. After cleaning up all the water a few times, the homeowner decided to find a company that could install a waterproofing system in the cellar to prevent water accumulation. They contacted Erickson Foundation Solutions to inspect their basement and find a solution. Our Design Specialist, Mark Proctor, met with the homeowner and inspected the unfinished space to determine what could be done to prevent water from collecting in the basement. After a thorough inspection, our Design Specialist recommended installing WaterGuard, TripleSafe, IceGuard, and Exterior Drainage to pump out any water from the cellar before it collects on the floor. Mark identified the lowest corner next to the bulkhead as the ideal location for the sump pump installation. Our installation team, led by Anthony LoCascio, began by chipping out the concrete along the wall with the bulkhead. After the concrete and some soil were removed, the team installed our TripleSafe and WaterGuard against the foundation wall. The drainage and sump basin was installed into place, and then the team plumbed the sump pump to the exterior of the home where we installed our IceGuard and Exterior Drainage Line. After the drainage was installed, the team mixed up concrete and poured it over the WaterGuard and around the sump pump basin to lock the system into place. Lastly, the team performed a flood test to ensure the system functioned correctly. The homeowners were delighted with the installation and were pleased that they no longer had to clean up their basement with a shop vac after a rainstorm.

Prevent Water Seepage into Basement, Concord, MA

A homeowner in Concord, Massachusetts, purchased their 1930s home in 2012. After purchasing the home they noticed continuous seepage and puddles on the basement floor. The homeowners have to repeatedly clean up the water on their basement floor and have decided they would like to find a solution to this issue. The homeowners would like to prevent water seepage to possibly create a playroom for their children. They reached out to EFS for a free inspection of their basement. Our Design Specialist Tom Armano met with the homeowners and talked to them about their concerns and goals for the project. After their conversation, he inspected the basement and provided a solution to the homeowners. Tom recommended installing 116' of WaterGuard, an UltraSump, and IceGuard into the basement to prevent water from seeping in.

Our Installation Team led by Steve Dumais began by chipping out the perimeter of the basement so we could install our perimeter drainage and sump pump beneath the slab. We installed the WaterGuard and UltraSump beneath the slab and then plumbed the system to the exterior of the home where we installed our IceGuard and drainage line. After everything was installed the team then mixed concrete and covered the perimeter drainage and around the sump pump to lock everything in place.

The homeowner was very happy with the installation of their perimeter drainage system. They no longer have to worry about water entering their basement and can now create a play area for their kids in the basement.

Selling Home and Want to Make the Basement Look Nicer, Concord, MA

A homeowner in Concord, Massachusetts, was selling their home soon and needed to do some upgrades to make their home more appealing to potential buyers. They wanted to find some way to make the basement more aesthetically pleasing and not allow water to collect on the floors. so they reached out to EFS for a free inspection. Our Design Specialist Jared met with the homeowner and recommended installing CleanSpace, Drainage Matting, and a TripleSafe in the basement to keep the basement dry all of the time.

Our team began by removing their old system which hasn't worked well in years. After it was removed the team began laying our Drainage Matting and CleanSpace onto the basement floor. After the system was installed the team then installed our TripleSafe Sump Pump into the lowest corner of the basement so we could pump out any water that tried to enter the basement.

Water Entered Basement Near Bulkhead, Concord, MA

A homeowner of a 1950s home in Concord, Massachusetts, recently purchased the home in June of 2022. The previous homeowner told them that water leaked into the basement near the bulkhead. The homeowner decided to call EFS for a free inspection of their basement. Our design specialist recommended installing a perimeter drainage system in the basement to collect water entering the basement and send it to a sump pump which will push the water through the drainage line to the exterior of the home.

Our production team began by chipping out a thin strip of concrete 12' long at the base of the wall that was allowing water into the basement. The team then inserted 9' of WaterGuard and 3' of Trench Drain. After the WaterGuard and Trench Drain were installed, the team then installed an Ultra Sump which connected to the perimeter drainage system. They made sure the perimeter drainage system and the UltraSump were all pitched correctly, then they mixed concrete and poured it over the top of the WaterGuard and around the UltraSump basin to cover the system. While the concrete was curing the team then pumped the sump pump to the exterior of the home. The team attached an IceGuard to prevent water from backing up into the basement. After the IceGuard was the rest of the drainage line which was fed 10' away from the home. After the IceGuard and drainage line was installed and buried the team then moved back inside to install the SaniDry and connect its discharge line to the UltraSump.

The homeowner was very happy with the results of the project. Our team was able to design and install a system that will prevent water from entering their basement anymore while also controlling the moisture in the basement.
