Wet Crawl Space
Persistent moisture in the crawl space caused the insulation to detach from the joists, leading to moisture-related deterioration and structural weakening. Over time, the floor joists began to sag, while elevated humidity levels contributed to musty odors migrating into the living space. These conditions resulted in uneven, bouncy, and sloping floors above, along with reduced thermal efficiency that made the floors noticeably colder. A comprehensive, high-performance system was necessary to restore structural integrity, improve indoor air quality, and enhance overall comfort within the home.
Crawl Space Support Base
The crew commenced the project by thoroughly clearing debris from the crawl space to establish a clean and accessible work environment. Designated installation areas for the crawl space support system were then carefully excavated and precisely leveled, creating a stable and load-bearing foundation to ensure proper placement and long-term performance of the SmartJack® supports.
Crawl Space Supplemental Beam
A supplemental beam was strategically installed along the existing floor joists to provide a continuous, reinforced load-bearing surface. This allowed for the proper integration of the SmartJack® support system, enabling effective load transfer, stabilization, and controlled elevation of the sagging floor structure above.
Crawl Space Support Post
The SmartJack® support posts were then installed on engineered bases and securely connected to the supplemental beam, forming a stable load transfer system. Constructed from high-strength, galvanized steel, the SmartJack® system is designed to resist corrosion and provide long-term structural performance. Its adjustable design allows for precise elevation and future fine-tuning, ensuring continued floor stabilization and optimal support over time.
Crawl Space Insulation
SilverGlo® rigid foam insulation panels were installed along the foundation walls to enhance thermal performance and moisture resistance. Composed of inorganic materials, SilverGlo® does not support mold growth, making it well-suited for crawl space environments. The panels are mechanically fastened to the foundation, ensuring a secure, long-term installation that will not sag or detach like traditional insulation. Additionally, TerraBlock™ insulation was installed across the crawl space floor, creating a durable thermal and moisture barrier between the earth and the home. This system not only helps reduce ground moisture infiltration but also contributes to improved energy efficiency by limiting heat loss through the floor assembly.
Crawl Space Encapsulation
CleanSpace® encapsulation was installed across the crawl space floor and extended up the foundation walls to create a continuous, airtight vapor barrier. This system effectively isolates the crawl space from ground moisture and external humidity, significantly reducing moisture intrusion. By controlling the crawl space environment, it helps prevent conditions that lead to wood rot, mold growth, and musty odors, while also contributing to improved indoor air quality and long-term structural durability.
