Damp Crawl Space
The existing vapor barrier within the crawl space was deteriorated and no longer functioning effectively, allowing ground moisture to infiltrate the area. This compromised condition created an environment conducive to mold growth, wood rot, and elevated humidity levels, which could lead to musty odors permeating into the living space above. A properly installed and sealed vapor barrier is essential for controlling moisture, preserving structural integrity, and maintaining healthy indoor air quality.
Crawl Space Debris Removal
To begin the project, the installation crew cleared all debris from the crawl space, ensuring a clean and unobstructed work environment.
SilverGlo Insulation
SilverGlo® rigid foam insulation was installed along the interior crawl space walls to enhance thermal efficiency and moisture resistance. With an R-value of R-11, SilverGlo provides consistent insulation performance while its closed-cell structure prevents water absorption-making it ideal for damp environments. Unlike traditional fiberglass insulation, which can sag, retain moisture, and promote mold growth, SilverGlo is mechanically fastened to the foundation walls, ensuring long-term durability and maintaining a clean, energy-efficient crawl space environment.
Drainage Matting and TerraBlock
Drainage matting was installed across the crawl space floor to establish a separation between the soil and the home's interior environment. This matting promotes directional water flow beneath the vapor barrier, efficiently channeling moisture toward designated drainage points and preventing surface pooling that can lead to mold, wood rot, and air quality issues. Over the matting, TerraBlock™ was applied-serving as both a cushioned vapor barrier and an insulating layer. TerraBlock enhances thermal resistance while further reducing moisture transmission from the ground, contributing to a healthier and more energy-efficient crawl space.
CleanSpace Vapor Barrier
The CleanSpace® encapsulation system was installed over the TerraBlock™ insulation and meticulously sealed along the crawl space walls to create a continuous moisture barrier. This system effectively prevents ground moisture and vapor intrusion, helping to maintain a dry and conditioned crawl space environment. Additionally, spray foam insulation was applied to the rim joists to seal and insulate the perimeter where the SilverGlo® panels meet the framing. This comprehensive approach enhances energy efficiency, improves indoor air quality, and protects the structural integrity of the home.
SaniDry Sedona Crawl Space Dehumidifier
To further enhance moisture control within the crawl space, a SaniDry Sedona® dehumidifier was installed. Engineered specifically for below-grade environments such as basements and crawl spaces, the Sedona delivers high-capacity moisture removal while maintaining energy efficiency. It continuously monitors humidity levels and extracts excess moisture from the air, helping to prevent mold growth, wood rot, and musty odors. Collected condensate is automatically routed through a drainage line that exits beneath the porch, allowing for a fully autonomous and maintenance-free discharge process.
