Failing Lally Columns
The lally columns previously installed in the basement proved inadequate for supporting the floors above, resulting in noticeable sagging and sloping. This not only causes discomfort when walking on the bouncy floors but also serves as a persistent reminder of the home's structural instability. To address this issue permanently, we initiated the installation of SmartJacks.
Concrete Removal for Footings
To commence the installation of footings for the SmartJacks, concrete and soil were excavated in precise 24-inch square sections.
Footings with Rebar
After the concrete and soil were excavated, the voids were filled with reinforced concrete, incorporating rebar to create a robust foundation for the SmartJacks.
Footings Leveled
Subsequently, additional concrete was poured onto the footings and meticulously leveled, forming a flat and robust surface optimized for weight-bearing.
SmartJack Base
After the concrete footings have fully cured, the SmartJack base can be positioned on them.
SmartJacks Installed to Main Beams
The SmartJack system is fully adjustable, enabling precise and tailored support for the main beams.
SmartJacks Cemented into Foundation
Once secured to the main beam, the SmartJacks are anchored into the foundation with concrete, providing additional support and ensuring long-term stability.
Completed SmartJack Installation
A total of 18 SmartJacks were strategically installed in designated areas to optimize load-bearing capacity. The floors are now stabilized and can be adjusted in the future if the homeowner desires.
