Wooden Supports Failing
The existing wooden support posts were no longer capable of adequately carrying the floor load above the basement. As the main beam shifted over time, one of the supports became displaced and ultimately failed, compromising the structural stability of the floor system. A permanent and more robust reinforcement solution was necessary to stabilize the beam, restore proper load distribution, and correct the noticeable floor sagging at the center of the home.
Concrete and Soil Removal
Existing concrete and underlying soil were removed to prepare footing locations for the SmartJack® columns. This excavation allowed for the installation of properly sized bases designed to support and distribute the floor loads effectively.
Footings with Rebar
Each concrete footing was constructed with embedded reinforcing steel (rebar), providing additional tensile strength and improving the footing's ability to distribute structural loads effectively.
SmartJacks Installed on Footings
Reinforced concrete footings were poured and precisely leveled to provide a solid foundation for the SmartJack® system. Once the footings had properly cured, the SmartJack® base plates were installed and securely anchored to the concrete.
SmartJacks Secured to Main Beam
The adjustable steel columns were then attached to the bases and positioned beneath the primary beam, allowing structural loads to be transferred effectively to the new engineered footings.
SmartJacks Concreted into Foundation Floor
After installation and adjustment, the SmartJack® columns were encapsulated within the newly placed concrete slab to provide additional stability and a clean, finished appearance. Baseline measurements were then recorded and benchmarked to establish reference points for future monitoring, allowing any structural movement or settlement to be accurately identified and evaluated over time.
