Failing Temporary Floor Supports
The homeowner had concerns about temporary support posts in the basement that were no longer providing adequate structural support, resulting in noticeable floor sagging. Before moving forward with renovation plans, they wanted confidence that their floor system could safely support the loads of the home and provide long-term stability.
Concrete and Soil Removal for Footings
To prepare for the SmartJack® installation, concrete and soil were excavated at each support location to allow for the construction of engineered footings. These reinforced footings provide a stable foundation for the SmartJack system, ensuring long-term structural support and load-bearing performance.
Footings with Rebar
To enhance the strength and durability of each footing, reinforcing steel (rebar) is installed in a grid pattern within the concrete. This reinforcement helps distribute structural loads more effectively, increases resistance to cracking, and creates a stable, long-lasting foundation for the support system.
SmartJacks Secured to Main Beam
SmartJack® support posts feature adjustable steel columns that can be precisely calibrated to address settlement and floor deflection. Installed on engineered concrete footings and securely connected to the home's main support beam, the system transfers structural loads effectively, restoring stability, improving floor performance, and providing reliable, long-term support for the floor framing system.
SmartJacks Cemented into Foundation
In areas where the existing main beam alone could not adequately support sagging floor sections, a supplemental beam was installed to provide additional structural reinforcement. The supplemental beam works in conjunction with the SmartJack® support system to lift and stabilize weakened floor joists, helping restore proper floor elevation and improve overall structural performance. Once positioned and precisely adjusted, the SmartJack® columns are secured to engineered concrete footings, creating a permanent load-bearing support system designed to deliver long-term stability to the floor framing above.
