A homeowner in North Reading, MA had an existing Radon Mitigation System but it was no longer working properly. A Home Inspector came and felt air coming through the foundation which was the reason for high radon levels. He concluded that the homeowner would need a second Radon Mitigation System. Michael Biedrzycki designed a new system to install in the basement. Scott Crandall and the team installed it. The before picture shows where the new Radon Mitigation System will be set up. The after picture shows both the new and the old Radon Mitigation System. With both systems running the radon levels have returned to below 4.0 pCi/l.

They called Erickson Foundation Supportworks to set up an appointment for a professional to come out and take a look in their basement.

Michael Biedrzycki was the Design Specialist for this project and was able to come out to the homeowner's home and design them a Radon Mitigation System. After the design process was complete, Michael passed his design over to the Crew Lead for this project. Scott Crandall and his team were in charge of installing the Radon Mitigation System. They successfully installed the system in the home.

The homeowners were happy that they were able to fix the radon issue but also complete it while their tenant was out of the country.

Radon Gas Mitigation Systems

Radon gas is colorless, odorless, and as cancer-causing as to//bacco and asbestos. Radon gas is produced from the decaying of rocks and soil and comes up from the ground into your crawlspace and basements. The way our radon mitigation systems works in a pipe collects the gases that are coming from the soil. The gas is then piped upwards where a depressurization vent forces the radon out from your home. Our radon mitigation system is completely compatible with the current waterproofing system in your home. Get in contact with us now to learn how to protect your loved ones from the harmful effects of radon gas.

Job Stories From North Reading, MA
Moisture Issue in Crawlspace, North Reading, MA

An owner of rental income property in North Reading, Massachusetts, a tenant was moving out of their unit and the owner would like to address a moisture problem before the next tenant moves in. Since the owner purchased this property they have noticed moisture in their crawlspace. They haven't had a good time to install the CleanSpace into the crawlspace with tenants living in the building. With this tenant moving out of the building the owner thought it would be a great time to have a company come in and address their problems. The owner decided to call EFS for a free inspection of their rental property. Our Design Specialist Tom inspected the crawlspace and checked the relative humidity. Tom recommended installing CleanSpace into the gravel floored crawlspace.

Our team arrived at the rental property and began installing 1200sqft of CleanSpace into the crawlspace. The team started by installing the CleanSpace on all 4 walls from top to bottom. The CleanSpace comes in rolls and the team uses a strong adhesive tape to stick the encapsulation on the wall but to also link sheets of CleanSpace together. After the walls were done the team moved on to installing the CleanSpace over the entire floor. The team made sure to integrate the CleanSpace on the wall into the CleanSpace on the floor.

The owner of the building was very happy that they were able to address their moisture concerns in the crawlspace.

One Side of the Garage was Settling, North Reading, MA

A homeowner in North Reading, Massachusetts, had lived in their home for the past 7 years. They have recently noticed some settlement on one side of their garage. Their home was built in 2011 so you wouldn't think that a home new wouldn't be settling this early but actually, a new home can experience the most amount of settlement in its first 5-7 years of construction. The homeowners decided to call EFS for a free inspection. Our Design Specialist John recommended installing 3 Push Piers to one settled corner of the garage to lift and stabilize the foundation. John recommended installing the Push Piers from the inside of the garage

Our production team began by chipping out three sections of concrete against the walls in the garage. The team then dug down to the footing of the foundation where they will attach our Push Pier bracket. One pier was set in the corner and the other two were set on each of the walls adjoining that corner. The team secured each of the Push Piers to the footing of the foundation walls and sent 3' sections of galvanized rod beneath the home until they reached 4000 PSI. Once they got to 4000 PSI the team capped each of the Push Piers and then backfilled the dirt and poured new concrete to match the concrete floor of the garage.

The homeowners were happy that their garage isn't settling anymore. The team only needed a couple of days to install the Push Piers and stabilize their foundation.

High Radon Levels, North Reading, MA

A homeowner in North Reading, Massachusetts, purchased a home that was built in the 1960s. They haven't moved into the home yet because they have concerns about high radon levels in their home. They had the home tested for radon, and the results showed that the levels in the home averaged around 45 pCi/L. With the levels being so high the homeowner wanted to wait to move into the home until the radon levels were addressed. Our design specialist John P. recommended installing two radon mitigation systems in the home.

Our production team installed one Radon System on the front right of the home and the other one on the back left of the home. Each system installed had its extraction point and fan. The team first started by chipping out a hole in the basement slab to attach the radon pipe. The team had made an extraction point in the front of the basement and the back of the basement. The team fed the PVC from the extraction point to the radon fan on the exterior of the home. To connect the PVC pipe to the fan the team had to create a hole in the side of the home. The team ran the PVC pipe through the wall and sealed it around the pipe and the team connected the PVC to the fan. After the fan and PVC are connected the team vented each radon system above the roofline of the home. The homeowner wanted to have the radon system that was installed in the front of the house to have the aesthetic package to make sure the fan wasn't an eyesore to the front of their home.

The homeowner was happy with the two radon systems that were installed. The radon systems reduced the radon levels in the home to a comfortable level. After the systems were installed, the homeowners were confident enough to move into their new home.

Sagging Floors, North Reading, MA

A homeowner in North Reading, Massachusetts, recently purchased their home. The home was built in 1930 and they noticed the floors sagging. Our design specialist measured the sag in the main beam and found that the floors had sunk 3/8". EFS recommended installing replacement lally columns and a supplemental beam into the basement to eliminate the sag.

Our production team created new concrete footings for the lallys and installed them under the main support beams of the floor above. Our team was able to eliminate the sag in the joists and restore the floors on the first floor to a near level position.

Previously Repair Crack Leaking Again, North Reading, MA

This homeowner in North Reading, Massachusetts was experiencing a crack in their basement start to leak. The crack was sealed previously. When the homeowners first moved into their home 8 years ago, a crack was visible in the basement. The crack is leaking again and they need to seal it. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection.

Design Specialist Stephen Caron inspected the home.  As he walked into the basement he noticed the crack on the wall. Stephen examined the crack and recommended resealing the crack and then installing FlexiSpan over the sealed crack.

The crew began sealing the crack and then began installing the FlexiSpan. FlexiSpan is a product that is a permanent solution to keeping wall cracks dry. Before applying FlexiSpan, the crew seals the crack using crack injection. Then they put a coat of FlexiSpan open-cell foam sealant over the sealed crack. On top of the special sealant, they then installed the FlexiSpan. This method will seal the crack but, if the crack does leak again the FlexiSpan will act as a channel and guide the water to a draining point at the floor where it is connected to WaterGuard or Catus Board.

Cracks in Basement Floor, North Reading, MA

This homeowner in North Reading Massachusetts had purchased their home 5 years ago. On the day of purchase, there were some cracks in the basement floor, but they didn't seem problematic. 5 years later, the cracks are bigger and there is water coming through those cracks. The homeowners needed to find a way to stop the water from entering the basement. They ended up finding out that the downspout in their basement was causing the water to build up in the corner of the basement. After the downspout issue was figured out they decided to call EFS to help them with the cracks in the basement floor.

Design Specialist Micheal Bradley inspected the basement. He examined the cracks in the basement and found that some of the sections that had cracks move when weight is on the slab. Michael believes there is an area under the slab where the water has washed away some of the soil, causing there to be a void under the slab. Michael recommended injecting PolyLevel underneath the slab to fill that void.

Crew Lead Nick Melo and his team arrived at the home and injected PolyLevel through the slab to fill the void. After the void was filled, the team sealed all of the cracks using Nexus Pro.

Radon Mitigation System, North Reading, MA

Laura C. of North Reading, Massachusetts was experiencing high radon levels in their basement. They want to lower the radon level in the home because Laura has a son who lives in the "apartment" in the basement. Laura called EFS to see if they could have someone come out to install a new Radon Mitigation System in their home.

Design Specialist Michael Biedrzycki came to the home and designed a radon mitigation system for the home.

Crew Lead Scott Crandall and his crew came to the home and installed a new Radon Mitigation System into the basement. The system reduced the levels of radon so that Laura's son was able to move back into his apartment in the basement.

Settling Garage, North Reading, MA

Kai F. of North Reading, Massachusetts was experiencing some cracking in their garage. They decided to call EFS to see if they could send someone out to look it.

Design Specialist John Prince came to the home and inspected the garage and the area surrounding the garage. John concluded that the garage side of the home was settling and the garage floor was cracking because of it. John proposed that EFS use Smart Jacks inside the garage to support inside then use PolyLEVEL to lift and level the floor.

Spencer Ladd and Jon Provost came to the home and injected the PolyLEVEL and installed the SmartJacks into the garage to help stop the settling.

Settling Foundation, North Reading, MA

Alex M. of North Reading, Massacusetts was experiencing settling that was affecting the front door and steps of his home. Alex called EFS to see if they could help with the settling of his home. Design Specialist Chuck Hallas of EFS came out of the home and inspected the area of concern. Chuck concluded that the home could use some Push Piers to stabilize the part of the foundation that is settling.

Jon Provost and Spencer Ladd came to the home and dug out a section of dirt near the stairs to exposed the footing of the foundation. Once they found the footing they attached a Push Pier mount to the footing and started pushing rods down until they hit bedrock or a sustainable press to hold the home.
