Exposed Sump Pump Cover
The sump pump cover in the homeowner's basement was inadequately sealed, permitting radon infiltration into the basement area. To effectively mitigate radon levels within the home, the installation of an airtight sump pump cover was imperative.
Radon Extraction Point
An extraction point was created through the basement foundation floor to facilitate radon mitigation. From this point, a PVC pipe was installed and extended to the exterior of the home, ensuring effective radon channeling and expulsion.
Radon Fan
Upon reaching the exterior of the home, the PVC pipe is connected to a radon fan. This fan actively extracts radon from the soil beneath the foundation, effectively preventing its infiltration into the home.
Radon Removed Above the Roofline
The PVC pipe was subsequently connected to the radon fan, extending beyond the roofline and positioned away from any potential entry points into the home. This configuration ensures the safe release of radon gas, effectively preventing its re-entry and exposure within the residence.
Custom Sump Pump Sealed Cover
The existing sump pump cover was removed and replaced with a custom-sealed sump pump cover. Ensuring that all points within the foundation floor are properly sealed is crucial for mitigating radon exposure.
U-Tube Manometer
A U-tube manometer was integrated into the radon mitigation system to verify its proper operation. This instrument measures the pressure differential, indicating the efficiency with which the system is extracting radon from the soil.
