Wet Crawl Space
The wet crawl space allowed excess moisture to saturate the existing fiberglass insulation, causing it to become compressed, lose its insulating value, and eventually detach from the floor system. As the insulation deteriorated, the floors above became noticeably colder. The elevated humidity levels also created ideal conditions for mold and mildew growth, contributing to musty odors that migrated into the living space and affected the home's overall indoor air quality.
Crawl Space Encapsulation
To address the moisture issues in the crawl space, we first installed drainage matting across the crawl space floor to create a capillary break between the soil and the home's foundation system. This durable drainage layer helps manage groundwater intrusion by directing water to the sump pump system for efficient removal. Next, we installed SilverGlo® insulated wall panels along the foundation walls and rim joists. These graphite-enhanced rigid foam panels provide a continuous thermal barrier, helping to reduce heat loss, improve energy efficiency, and maintain more consistent floor temperatures throughout the home. Finally, we encapsulated the crawl space with a CleanSpace® vapor barrier, which was sealed over the drainage matting and SilverGlo system. This comprehensive encapsulation solution isolates the crawl space from the earth, significantly reducing moisture and humidity levels while helping to improve indoor air quality and create a healthier, more energy-efficient home.
Crawl Space Sump Pump
We installed a sump pump system at the lowest elevation within the crawl space to serve as the collection point for groundwater managed by the drainage system. As water enters the crawl space environment, it is directed through the drainage matting and into the sump basin, where it is automatically discharged away from the home's foundation. This provides reliable water management, helping to keep the crawl space dry and protect the structure from moisture-related issues.
Wet Basement
Water was entering the basement through cold joints, the common connection points between the foundation wall and floor slab, resulting in seepage and standing water on the basement floor. These recurring moisture issues limited the usability of the space and raised concerns about potential damage to stored belongings. The homeowner wanted a dry, dependable basement that could safely accommodate storage and provide peace of mind when accessing the area.
WaterGuard
We installed WaterGuard® interior drainage along the perimeter of the basement at the wall-floor joint, just above the foundation footing, where groundwater infiltration commonly occurs. This engineered drainage system intercepts water seepage before it can reach the basement floor and channels it through a dedicated drainage pathway. The collected water is then directed to the sump pump system, where it is safely discharged away from the home's foundation, helping to maintain a dry, usable basement environment year-round.
TrenchDrain
Our TrenchDrain™ surface drainage system was installed at the basement bullhead entry, a common point where surface water can enter the basement during heavy rainfall or snowmelt. Designed to capture water at the surface level before it can spread across the basement floor, the TrenchDrain system effectively intercepts and redirects incoming water. It is seamlessly integrated with the WaterGuard® interior drainage system, creating a unified drainage network that channels collected water directly to the sump pump system for safe discharge away from the home. This comprehensive approach helps ensure the basement remains dry and protected from both surface water intrusion and groundwater seepage.
TripleSafe Sump Pump
The TripleSafe™ Sump Pump System was installed to provide comprehensive, year-round protection against basement water intrusion. This system features three levels of defense: a primary pump for everyday water removal, a secondary pump for periods of heavy water volume, and a battery-powered backup pump that continues operating during power outages. By automatically responding to changing water conditions, the TripleSafe system delivers reliable performance and helps ensure the basement remains dry, even during severe weather events or emergency situations.
IceGuard
Water collected by the sump pump systems is discharged away from the foundation through dedicated discharge lines. To ensure reliable performance during New England winters, these discharge lines were equipped with IceGuard®, an anti-freeze discharge fitting designed to prevent backups caused by frozen or obstructed exterior pipes. If the discharge line becomes blocked, IceGuard allows water to safely escape through specially engineered openings, maintaining proper system operation and helping protect the basement from potential flooding due to winter freeze conditions.
LawnScape
The sump pump discharge lines were extended to a designated drainage area near the home's garden, allowing water to be discharged safely away from the foundation where it can be naturally absorbed without negatively impacting the structure. To maintain the property's appearance and minimize visibility, the discharge line was buried below grade, preserving the aesthetics of the lawn while providing an effective and long-term water management solution.
