Old Sump Pump
Although the existing sump pump in the basement remained operational, it lacked the capacity to effectively manage groundwater intrusion caused by the high water table. Due to its limited performance, a more comprehensive and robust waterproofing system was necessary to ensure consistent moisture control and protect the integrity of the finished basement.
Finished Basement Water Damage
Water infiltration occurred through cold joints in the finished basement, leading to deterioration of flooring and drywall. This moisture intrusion posed significant risks, including potential mold growth and damage to personal belongings, thereby compromising both the structural integrity and indoor air quality of the space.
Basement Perimeter Drainage System
Sections of finished flooring and drywall were carefully removed to provide access for the installation of the WaterGuard® perimeter drainage system. Concrete was then excavated along the interior perimeter of the basement slab. The WaterGuard® system was installed directly atop the foundation footing, allowing it to intercept and channel groundwater before it enters the living space. The drainage channel was embedded in a bed of washed stone to promote efficient water flow toward the sump pump for discharge. Following a successful flood test to verify system performance, the trench was backfilled and sealed with concrete to complete the installation.
Basement Surface Drainage System
In areas where the WaterGuard® system is not feasible-such as at the bulkhead entrance-our TrenchDrain® system was installed to intercept surface water before it could reach the finished basement. This surface-level drainage solution integrates seamlessly with the WaterGuard® system, directing collected water to the sump pump for efficient removal from the home.
TripleSafe Sump Pump
The TripleSafe® Sump Pump System consists of three distinct pumps: a primary pump for standard operation, a secondary pump for high-volume scenarios, and a battery-powered backup pump to maintain functionality during power outages. This tiered configuration ensures continuous and reliable water evacuation, with each pump activating as needed to manage varying levels of water intrusion.
Drainage System Connected to Old Sump Pump
The WaterGuard® system can be integrated with existing sump pump installations, as demonstrated in this case. While the original sump pump lacked the capacity to manage high water volumes independently, the addition of the TripleSafe® system significantly enhances overall drainage performance by handling the majority of water removal.
Preventing Frozen Discharge Lines
Water is discharged from the home through a dedicated outlet line. To safeguard against potential freezing during colder conditions, the IceGuard® system functions as a fail-safe, allowing water to escape even if the discharge line becomes obstructed by ice. This prevents backup pressure on the sump pump and mitigates the risk of basement flooding. The discharge line is routed away from the foundation to prevent re-saturation of the surrounding soil and is buried to protect it from environmental exposure and physical damage.
Powerful Basement Dehumidifier
The SaniDry XP dehumidifier was installed in the basement to provide high-capacity moisture control. Engineered to remove up to 109 liters of water per day, it effectively maintains dry conditions in spaces up to 2,500 square feet. By significantly reducing humidity levels, the system contributes to healthier indoor air quality and helps prevent mold growth and moisture-related damage throughout the home.
