Leaking Bulkhead Entrance
Moisture intrusion through the bulkhead created overflow into the basement entryway, increasing the risk of water penetration during periods of heavy rainfall or snowmelt. Given that part of the basement was already finished, the homeowners sought a reliable solution to safeguard their living space against leaks and flooding.
Failing Sump Pump
The existing sump pump lacked the capacity to manage water intrusion effectively without an integrated drainage network. While it offered limited mitigation against leaks and flooding, a comprehensive waterproofing solution was necessary to maintain a consistently dry basement environment.
Setting Waterproofing System
To install the TrenchDrain system, we carefully removed concrete along the perimeter of the foundation wall. This advanced surface drainage solution is designed to intercept water at its entry point and channel it directly to the sump system for efficient removal. A sump pit was excavated to accommodate the UltraSump® pump basin, which provides superior protection against water intrusion. The UltraSump® system includes a high-capacity battery backup, ensuring continuous operation and peace of mind even during power outages.
Waterproofing System Concreted into Foundation
Following a successful flood test to verify optimal drainage performance, the system is permanently secured in place with concrete. The concrete is finished flush with the existing floor, creating a seamless integration that preserves the foundation's clean appearance while ensuring long-term durability.
Frozen Discharge Line Prevention
During harsh winter conditions, discharge lines are susceptible to freezing, which can obstruct water flow and lead to system backup. To mitigate this risk, an IceGuard® anti-freeze device was installed on the discharge line as a fail-safe. This feature provides an alternate escape route for water in the event of a frozen or blocked discharge line, preventing sump basin overflow and ensuring continuous drainage protection.
LawnSpace
A LawnScape® outlet was installed at the termination point of the discharge line to facilitate efficient water dispersion away from the home. Positioned at a downward grade, it ensures that discharged water flows safely away from the foundation, eliminating the risk of re-saturation near exterior walls. The discharge line was then buried below grade, maintaining the lawn's aesthetics while providing a durable, unobtrusive drainage solution.
