Flooded Basement
The basement addition was prone to persistent flooding, resulting in a damp, mold‑ridden, and ultimately unusable environment. Recognizing the goal of transforming the area into functional living space, the homeowner understood that comprehensive waterproofing was an essential first step before pursuing any further renovations.
Basement Drainage System
To prepare the basement for an interior drainage solution, sections of the concrete slab along the perimeter were carefully removed to allow for the installation of the WaterGuard® perimeter drainage system. Designed to intercept groundwater before it enters the basement, WaterGuard channels moisture directly to the sump pump for controlled discharge. The system was placed in a bed of crushed stone atop the foundation footing to promote optimal drainage and maintain consistent flow. Once installed, it underwent a flood test to verify performance and ensure unobstructed water movement. After confirming proper operation, the drainage system was permanently sealed within the foundation using new concrete.
Basement Sump Pump and Dehumidifier
The TripleSafe® Sump Pump System utilizes a three‑pump configuration to ensure continuous and highly reliable basement dewatering. The primary pump manages typical groundwater removal, while a higher‑capacity secondary pump activates during periods of elevated water intrusion, such as during heavy rainfall or rapid snowmelt. For added resilience, the system includes a battery‑operated backup pump engineered to operate during power outages or mechanical failures, maintaining protection when it is most critical. Together, these three pumps provide comprehensive, 24/7 defense against basement flooding.
Discharge Line Protection
During freezing conditions or unforeseen blockages, a discharge line can become obstructed, preventing water from exiting the system as intended. Without a safeguard in place, this backup can cause the sump pit to overflow, leading to potential water damage. To mitigate this risk, the IceGuard® discharge line protection system is installed. IceGuard is engineered with built‑in overflow perforations that automatically release water on the exterior of the home if the primary discharge line becomes frozen or clogged, ensuring uninterrupted pump operation and maintaining consistent protection against flooding.
Bubbler Pot
A bubbler pot was installed at the termination point of the discharge line to disperse water efficiently below the lawn's surface. This subsurface release helps prevent surface pooling and eliminates the risk of oversaturation during high‑flow discharge periods. The discharge line was then fully buried, preserving both the yard's appearance and the long‑term functionality of the drainage system.
