Humid Basement
Basements constructed with fieldstone foundation walls are often prone to elevated humidity levels and water infiltration. To safeguard stored belongings and ensure the long-term structural health of the basement, the homeowner identified the need for a comprehensive and reliable waterproofing solution.
Interior Basement Drainage System
To accommodate the installation of the WaterGuard® perimeter drainage system, a section of concrete along the foundation floor was removed. This system is specifically designed to capture groundwater at its point of entry, preventing it from infiltrating the basement. Collected water is then directed through the drainage channel to the sump pump, where it is efficiently discharged from the home.
Basement Surface Drainage
In certain areas of the basement where WaterGuard® installation is not practical-such as around the oil tank-TrenchDrain® surface drainage is utilized. Unlike perimeter systems that capture water at the foundation edge, TrenchDrain® collects water directly from the floor surface. It is fully integrated with the WaterGuard® system, creating a unified drainage path that channels water efficiently to the sump pump for removal.
Drainage System Cemented into Foundation
After completing a flood test to confirm proper water flow and system performance, the drainage components are permanently secured within the foundation using a concrete overlay. This process ensures structural integrity, a seamless finish, and long-term durability while maintaining an unobtrusive appearance.
Basement Sump Pump and Dehumidifier
The SuperSump® system activates automatically as water enters its basin, efficiently removing any accumulated water from the basement. Complementing this, the SaniDry™ XP is a high-performance dehumidification unit designed to maintain optimal humidity levels, inhibit mold growth, prevent wood rot, and promote a healthy basement environment.
Safe Water Removal
Water is discharged from the home through a dedicated outlet line. To ensure uninterrupted operation, an IceGuard® fail-safe is installed on the discharge line. This device provides an alternate escape route for water in the event of a freeze or blockage, preventing sump pump backups that could otherwise lead to basement leaks or flooding.
Efficient Soil Drainage
A bubbler pot is installed at the discharge line's termination point to allow water to disperse gradually into the surrounding soil, preventing surface pooling and lawn saturation. The discharge line is then buried below grade, ensuring both reliable functionality and a clean, unobtrusive appearance.
