Old Block Foundation Wall Replaced

A homeowner in Deerfield, New Hampshire has owned their 18th-century home for the past 50 years. Over the last 20 years, they have noticed a section of their block foundation beginning to crack and bow. They have been planning to do some remodeling in the part of the home above, but they don't want to cause further damage to the foundation. Therefore, they decided to call Erickson Foundation Solutions to inspect the foundation of their home to see if there was anything they could do to stabilize it before starting their remodel. 

 

Our Design Specialist, Anthony Brancato, met with the homeowners and examined the foundation where the concern was. He found that the block foundation wall had many blocks that were separating from their neighboring blocks. Anthony determined that the wall should be replaced instead of repaired because of the amount of cracks found in the wall. He recommended replacing the old block foundation with a new 12-foot Masonry Foundation Wall. 

 

Our installation team, led by Nick Carelli, began by installing temporary support around the foundation wall so that they could remove the old damaged wall. They then removed the wall and began setting up the new wall. First, they poured a new foundation footing to have a flat space to begin building the foundation wall. After curing the footing, the team laid bricks one at a time until they reached the floor joists. With the wall completed, the team removed the temporary support and allowed the home to rest on the foundation wall. 

 

After cleaning up the job site, we showed the homeowner the new foundation wall, and they were very impressed with the installation.

Homeowner Wanted to Lower Radon Levels, Deerfield, NH

A homeowner in Deerfield, New Hampshire, had purchased their forever home 4 years ago. A few months ago the homeowner became worried about the radon levels in their home. They decided to buy a "radon tester" and monitor the radon levels in their home. The results came back with an average of around 10 pCi/L. The homeowner would like to have the levels reduced to below 4.0 pCi/L. The homeowner called EFS for an inspection of their home, and our Design Specialist recommended and designed a radon mitigation system with 2 extraction points for their home to reduce the radon levels below 4.0 pCi/L. 

Our installation team began by creating two extraction points to pull the most amount of radon from beneath the home as they can. Next, the team linked the two extraction points with PVC pipe and then fed the PVC to the exterior of the home. Once outside the team then installed the radon fan to the side of the home where they connected the PVC pipe to the fan. After the fan and the radon pipes were connected the team then used more PVC pipe to vent the radon system above the roofline of the home. 

The homeowner was very pleased with the results of the project. The radon levels in the home were reduced to below 4.0 pCi/L.

Cracks in Basement Now Spreading to Garage, Deerfield, NH

A homeowner in Deerfield, New Hampshire, has lived in their home since 2007. Shortly after moving into the home, they noticed the cracks in the basement slab. After living in the home for about 15 years they have seen the cracks find their way into the garage. They decided to call EFS for a free inspection and our Design Specialist James recommended installing PolyLevel throughout the basement and the garage to fill the void under the slabs. James suggested using NexusPro to seal all of the cracks in the slabs throughout the basement and garage but the homeowners only wanted to seal the cracks in the garage. 

Our team used our PolyLevel Truck to inject foam underneath the slab in the basement and the garage. The PolyLevel was injected beneath the slabs in a grid pattern this will ensure no void under the concrete will go unfilled. After the team filled the void beneath the basement and garage the team then sealed all of the cracks in the garage.

The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the project. They could feel an immediate difference under the concrete before our team even finished the job. 

Chimney Leaning Away from Home, Deerfield, NH

William H. of Deerfield, New Hampshire had recently noticed that his chimney, near his front stairs, is starting to pull away from his home. Since he first noticed it, the lean has gotten worse over time. It has gotten so bad where he used a ratchet strap to help hold the chimney closer to the home. William decided to call Erickson Foundation Solution to see if someone could come out and propose a solution to stop his chimney from leaning. 

Design Specialist Kyle Jamerson came to William's home and inspected the chimney and home. Kyle proposed that William's chimney would benefit from two helical piers installed under the edge that is sinking. The pier would lift the side of the chimney that was sinking and would stabilize the chimney for years to come. 

Crew Lead Nick Carelli and his team came to the home and installed two push piers to the sunken side of the chimney and push the chimney back into its original position.
