A homeowner in Gloucester, Massachusetts became concerned about the radon levels in their home following an understanding of basement systems. The radon test results indicated levels between 6-9 pCi/L, exceeding the EPA's recommended action level of 4 pCi/L. In an effort to reduce the radon levels, they contacted Erickson Foundation Solutions.
Our Design Specialist, Tom Armano, recommended installing a radon mitigation system with a fan moisture guard and exterior aesthetic package. The installation team initiated the process by creating an extraction point through a small circular opening in the basement concrete floor for the radon mitigation system. A radon pipe was then affixed to this point and extended to the home's exterior, where the radon fan was mounted on the side. Additional piping from the fan was routed alongside the house, extending above the roof to prevent radon re-entry. After testing the fan for operational integrity, the team provided the homeowners with a charcoal test kit to reassess the radon levels after approximately one week.
With the proper precautions now taken, this homeowner has peace of mind that his home is safe from radon.
