Radon Gas Mitigation Systems

Radon gas is colorless, odorless, and as cancer-causing as to//bacco and asbestos. Radon gas is produced from the decaying of rocks and soil and comes up from the ground into your crawlspace and basements. The way our radon mitigation systems works in a pipe collects the gases that are coming from the soil. The gas is then piped upwards where a depressurization vent forces the radon out from your home. Our radon mitigation system is completely compatible with the current waterproofing system in your home. Job Stories From Winchester, MA
Unlevel Floor Stabilization in Winchester, MA

Recently, our team at Erickson Foundation Solutions had the opportunity to help a homeowner in Winchester, MA, who was facing a quite common but distressing problem. Their home was showing signs of uneven floors, a telltale symptom troubling many homeowners, indicating that the support structure beneath their home, specifically in the basement, wasn't holding up as it should.

Upon the homeowner’s call, our Customer Care team promptly set up a home inspection with one of our System Design Specialists. Our specialist made a trip to the home, conducting a thorough investigation of the basement. It was found that the previously installed support columns were not adequate, leading to the heart of the issue: the unlevel floors throughout their home. The solution was clear; our team recommended installing the SmartJack support system. SmartJack is a high-strength, adjustable system designed to provide solid support to uneven floors and sagging floor joists. Not your average fix, SmartJack is made to last and handily addresses the core issue of inadequate support columns. Following the homeowner’s approval, our Production Team, consisting of knowledgeable foreman Neal Foley along with our skilled installers, took to the task. The SmartJack system was installed efficiently, causing minimal disruption to the homeowner's daily life.

Post-installation, the immediate impact was noticeable. The once unlevel floors began to stabilize, breathing new life and safety into the home. Wrapping up the job, our team made sure to leave the site cleaner than we found it, ensuring that the homeowner’s satisfaction with our neatness and professional conduct was as high as the satisfaction with our foundation solutions. This project is a testament to Erickson Foundation Solutions' commitment: ensuring homeowners enjoy an exceptional experience from the first phone call through to the completion of the project.

Waterproofing a Finished Basement, Winchester, MA

When a family in Winchester, MA, reached out to us, they were grappling with a problem that many homeowners dread—water damaging their finished basement. It's the kind of issue that can disrupt the comfort and safety of home, causing stress and uncertainty. The family needed a solution that would not only address the current water intrusion but prevent future issues, ensuring their basement remained dry and the heart of their home could beat strong.

Our journey with them began with a simple phone call to our Customer Care team, leading to an in-home inspection by one of our experienced System Design Specialists. During the visit, George Gouthier thoroughly assessed the situation, diagnosing the root of the problem, and recommended a tailored solution—the installation of WaterGuard to manage perimeter drainage, a TripleSafe Sump Pump to handle water pumping efficiently, and IceGuard to protect against freezing and clogging in colder temperatures. Our production team, consisting of a foreman Anthony Locascio and skilled installers, took to the task with a clear goal: to transform the water-logged basement into a dry, comfortable space once more. In the tranquil city of Winchester, our team worked diligently, installing the WaterGuard, TripleSafe Sump Pump, and IceGuard, addressing each concern with precision and care. It was four full days of decision-centered work, ensuring each component was correctly placed to offer the most effective, long-lasting solution to the basement’s water woes.

The outcome? A bone-dry basement and a family able to reclaim their space for relaxation and enjoyment, no longer haunted by the fear of water damage. The worry that once clouded their days with dread had been cleared away, much like we cleared the water from their basement.

High Water Table, Winchester, MA

A homeowner in Winchester, Massachusetts purchased their home 35 years ago. A few years ago, they had water entering their basement. They installed a small makeshift pump to pump out the water. However, as the years passed, the water table has risen and the makeshift pump is no longer capable of keeping up with the incoming water. The homeowner called EFS for a free inspection of their basement. Our Design Specialist, George Gouthier, met with the homeowners and inspected the basement. After examining the basement, George recommended the installation of a TripleSafe, IceGuard, and Exterior Discharge Line to pump out water from the basement.

Our installation team began by removing the old makeshift sump pump. Then, they chipped out some concrete and installed a bigger and more capable sump pump. After setting the pump to level with the basement floor, the team plumbed the sump to the exterior of the home. They then installed two IceGuards and 60 feet of Exterior Drainage. After the system was installed, the team performed a flood test on the pump and confirmed that everything worked properly. Next, the team mixed up concrete and poured it around the basin of the sump pump to lock it into place.

While the concrete cured, we cleaned up the site and took the homeowner on a final walkthrough. We answered any questions during the walkthrough and made sure the customer was happy.

Water Leaking into Basement, Winchester, MA

This homeowner in Winchester, Massachusetts, owns a home that was originally built in 1925 but was added to in the early 1990s. Since buying the home in the late 80s, they have seen water enter the basement during heavy rain and become tired of cleaning up water. The homeowners called EFS for a free inspection of their basement. Our Design Specialist Kenny Calabrese took a detailed look in the basement to find a solution to the problem. He found that water was entering the basement near one of the egress windows. Kenny recommended installing WaterGuard and CleanSpace Wall in the basement to collect any water that seeps in.

Our Installation Team led by Anthony LoCascio began by chipping out a couple of feet of concrete beneath the egress window. We then installed WaterGuard where we chipped out the concrete and then installed CleanSpace up the wall and around the egress window. This will allow us to collect any seepage from under this window and collect and drain it through the WaterGuard. After everything was in place the team then mixed up concrete and poured it over the WaterGuard to lock everything into place.

The homeowners were very happy with the results of the project. They no longer have to worry about water leaking onto the slab in the basement.

Water Entering Basement, Winchester, MA

A homeowner in Winchester, Massachusetts purchased their home in June 2023. During the pre-purchase inspection, an inspector noted a couple of concerns in the basement. There were markings where water had entered the basement and concerns of radon gas. The inspector recommended the issues to be repaired after the sale was complete. The homeowners were referred by a friend to EFS for Waterproofing and Radon Mitigation. They contacted EFS for a free inspection of their basement. Our Design Specialist, Josh Bartholomew, met with the homeowners and inspected their basement to find a solution to the issues the inspector had revealed. After inspecting the basement, Josh recommended the installation of a TripleSafe with a domed sump pit cover, WaterGuard with a Radon Seal Strip, IceGuard, and Exterior Drainage Line. This system would prevent water and radon gas from seeping into the basement.

Our installation team led by Gunther Billhardt, began by chipping out the concrete in the basement to install our drainage and sump pump below the slab. Our team installed our radon-sealed perimeter drainage and the sump pump with a domed cover to prevent radon gas from seeping through. After both the perimeter drainage and sump pump were installed, we plumbed the system to the exterior of the home. Once plumbed to the exterior of the home, we then installed 2 IceGuards and our 30' Exterior Drainage Line into the yard. After the exterior drainage was installed, the team returned inside to cover the perimeter drainage and sump pump with concrete to lock them into place.

After the job was complete, the homeowners were pleased with the outcome of the project.

Exercise in Basement and Wanted to Lower Radon Level, Winchester, MA

A Winchester, Massachusetts homeowner has been living in their home since 2018. The house was built back in 1922 and the basement serves as a storage area and workout space. Recently, the homeowner became aware of the harmful effects of radon and decided to have their home tested for it. Due to the pandemic, they thought it was a good time to call in EFS to help them design a radon system. Mark Proctor, our Design Specialist, met with the homeowner to review the test results which revealed elevated radon levels in the basement, exceeding the recommended limit of 4.0 pCi/L. Mark designed a radon mitigation system that was then installed by our Installation Team, led by Branden Edwards. The team created an extraction point in the slab and installed a PVC pipe that was connected to a Radon Fan located outside the basement. The fan drew up the radon-filled air from beneath the home and pushed it through the system, away from the house. After ten days of the system being in place, the homeowner tested their home again and discovered that the radon levels were below the recommended limit. The homeowners were thrilled with the results of the project and can now rest easy knowing that their basement is safe from radon.

Mold and Water Concerns in Basement, Winchester, MA

A homeowner in Winchester, Massachusetts, has lived in their home for 4 years and has seen water collect in the basement a few times and doesn't want mold to start sprouting because they are allergic to mold. The homeowner reached out to EFS for a free inspection and our Design Specialist Keith inspected the basement and designed a solution for them. Keith recommended installing a SaniDry, WaterGuard, and a TripleSafe in the basement to eliminate any water entering the basement and controlling the humidity in the basement to prevent mold from growing in the home.

Our installation team began by chipping out concrete along the one wall that was allowing water into the basement. Once a small trench was made at the base of that wall, the team then installed our WaterGuard into the trench. Next, the team began to chip out a hole to install our TripleSafe into the basement. The basement had an existing sump pit but that pump could not handle the water. The team installed the new TripleSafe into the basement and integrated it into the WaterGuard and then plumbed the system to the exterior of the home where we installed an IceGuard and a 30' drainage line. After the system was tested, the team then poured a layer of concrete over the WaterGuard and around the TripleSafe to lock it in place. Lastly, the team set up the SaniDry to control the humidity in the basement. The dehumidifier was installed near the TripleSafe so we could feed the discharge line into the sump pump.

The homeowners were very pleased with the project. They no longer have to worry about water entering their basement or the threat of mold growing in their home.

Homeowner Wanted to Move Sump in Basement, Winchester, MA

A homeowner in Winchester, Massachusetts, had an existing sump pump that they would like to be removed and installed in a different corner. The homeowner found the water would collect in the corner away from the existing sump pump, so the homeowner decided to call EFS for a free inspection. Our Design Specialist Josh recommended installing a new UltraSump into the corner of the basement where the water was collecting.

Our Installation Team began by chipping out a basin for our UltraSump and removing dirt from under the concrete so it would slide in flush with the concrete when installed. After the team made sure the basin would fit the team then plumbed the system across the basement through the wall to the exterior of the home. On the exterior of the home, the team installed a drainage line complete with a SoakAway. After the sump was plumbed, the team mixed up some concrete and poured it around the base of the sump to lock it into place.

The homeowner was pleased by the installation by EFS and they have not seen any water in their basement since the sump was installed.

Stone Foundation Wall Deteriorating, Winchester, MA

A homeowner in Winchester, Massachusetts, lived in a home that was built in the 1800s. The home had a stone foundation wall which had pieces of mortar and stone flaking off the wall. The homeowners wanted to stop this issue in fear that a larger issue could occur. Our design specialist Isaac looked at the stone foundation wall and confirmed the wall was deteriorating. Isaac recommended installing PolyLevel Wall Restoration to the interior foundation wall.

Our production team installed PolyLevel Wall Restoration along the interior of the foundation wall. The team used a spray nozzle to coat the wall with our poly foam that rapidly expands to cover the wall and seal any cracks or crevices in the foundation wall. Our team sprays an even coat on the entire foundation wall to prevent further deterioration of the wall.
