This homeowner in Gloucester, MA was concerned with her dirty, cold crawl space. The old insulation was hanging down, the dirt floor was exposed to pests coming in, and there were some moisture concerns. She was hoping for a permanent solution, and so reached out to our team at Erickson Foundation Solutions.

Our specialist designed and proposed a crawl space encapsulation system to help with all of her concerns.

Our crew was able to clean up and install the vapor barrier in two days, and the space went from dirty and unkept, to warm, dry, and tidy. The homeowner was very pleased with the results, and thrilled to have a usable, functional crawlspace in her home.

This retaining wall in Gloucester was at risk of sinking and collapsing, due to the tides washing away its foundation soils underneath. We applied our PolyLEVEL product and filled in the voids with a highly effective, durable polymer foam. The wall is now no longer at risk of sinking, and the rising and sinking waters will be unable to erode the foam as it did the soils.

Crawl Space Repair Contractor in Gloucester, MA

The crawl space is often an underappreciated part of the home that often gets issues with mold. Since it is more often an out-of-sight and out of mind, when problems occur with your crawl space it can easily have wide-ranging effects on the entire home. This is especially true since many older crawl spaces were vented due to mistaken beliefs about home construction. These vents make it easy for mold and rot to occur, causing issues throughout the home like uneven floors, foul smells, worsened allergy symptoms, and more.

Moisture and Air Quality Concerns in Basement, Gloucester, MA

A homeowner in Gloucester, Massachusetts, had lived in their home for the past 50 years. The basement has some ledge in it and it seems to collect moisture. They have always had a moisture issue in their basement but recently the homeowner's wife had gotten covid and became more aware of the quality of the air they were breathing. The homeowner decided to call EFS for a free inspection of their basement. Our Design Specialist Kenny looked at the basement and recommended installing Foamax and a SaniDry dehumidifier to the side of the basement with the ledge to help eliminate the moisture entering the basement.

Our team began by cutting pieces of foam board to fit the wall. The team fit the pieces of Foamax on the wall and then secured them against the wall using something we call Christmas trees because of the way they look. After the Foamax were placed on the walls the team then used spray foam to seal them and make sure no air or moisture can travel through the foam. After the team installed the Foamax the team then installed the SaniDry in the basement to reduce any moisture in the air.

The homeowners were very pleased with the results of the installation of the Foamax and SaniDry.

ERV Installation, Gloucester, MA

A homeowner in Gloucester, Massachusetts, had questioned the air quality and humidity in their basement. They reached out to EFS for the service of their existing SaniDry Sedona. Our Service Technician Justin performed the annual service on the SaniDry but had a conversation with the homeowner revealing that they were concerned with the air quality in their home. After a conversation with the homeowner, Justin recommended an ERV system to the homeowner to improve the air quality in their basement.

Our production crew led by Branden Edwards installed the ERV on the basement wall. Off of the ERV system is 4 silver pipes that transfer old stale air from inside the home and replace it with new clean air from outside the home. The ERV improved the air quality in the basement.

The homeowner was delighted with the results of the project.

Radon System Interrupted Sump Pump, Gloucester, MA

A homeowner in Gloucester, Massachusetts, had recently installed a radon system in their home. Since the radon system was installed the homeowner felt that the sump pump in their basement hasn't been working that well. The homeowner decided to call EFS for a free inspection. Our design specialist recommended installing a TripleSafe, IceGuard, Drainage Line, and TimeMachine into the basement to replace the existing sump pump.

Our production team began by removing the existing sump from the basement. Once the team removed the sump they began chipping out concrete so they could install our TripleSafe. The team removed some concrete and dirt to place the TripleSafe basin flush with the rest of the concrete. After the basin was installed, the team then began setting up the TripeSafe in the basin and installing the TimeMachine so the homeowner can check the status of the sump pump via BlueTooth. After the TripleSafe was set in the basement and the TimeMachine was connected the team plumbed the TripleSafe to the exterior of the home. Once outside, the team installed the IceGuard at the start of the exterior drainage line to prevent water from backing up into the basement. After the IceGuard the team used over 10' of Drainage Line to expel the water away from the home and prevent water from re-entering the basement.

The homeowner was pleased with the results of the project. They were happy they don't have to worry about their sump pump working and additionally had the added benefit of checking the status of their sump pump on their phone.

Crawlspace Encapsulation, Gloucester, MA

A homeowner in Gloucester, Massachusetts, just purchased a home that was built in the 1940s. The new homeowner noticed ground water collecting in their concrete crawlspace. The crawlspace had an existing sump pit but the water was still collecting on the concrete floor. The homeowners planned on renovating the entire home but they wanted to start with this. Our design specialist Tom recommended encapsulating the crawlspace and adding a SmartSump into the sump pit.

Our production team began by installing Drainage Matting all over the crawlspace floor. The Drainage Matting will allow air and water to travel underneath it. Once the team covered the floor with the matting they began installing the CleanSpace over the Drainage Matting. The team sealed all the edges of CleanSpace with CleanSpace Tape. CleanSpace will act as a moisture barrier and prevent water and moisture from entering the crawlspace. When the team fully encapsulated the Crawlspace the team started to install the SmartSump into the old sump pit. The team made sure to use CleanSpace Tape to seal the edges of the SmartSump to make sure no moisture can enter the crawlspace.

The new homeowners were happy with the encapsulation of their crawlspace. Now no water can enter the crawlspace and collect on the floor. The homeowner can now move on to additional renovations that needed to be done.

Insulating Crawlspace, Gloucester, MA

A homeowner in Gloucester, Massachusetts, has a dirt-floored crawlspace under their home that was part block wall and part fieldstone foundation. The homeowner has experienced cold floors and drafts of cool air. The homeowner was interested in insulating their crawlspace to prevent cold feet and cold drafts in their home. Our design specialist Kenny first recommended installing our SilverGlo crawlspace insulation on the block wall portion of the crawlspace and then spraying PolyLevel Wall Restoration on the fieldstone portion. This will protect the home from those sudden rushes of cold air coming through the home. The second part of Kenny's recommendation way to encapsulate and support the crawlspace.

The first production the team installed were the SilverGlo, PolyLevel Wall Restoration, and SmartJacks. Our team will encapsulate the crawlspace at a later date. The team began by clearing all of the debris from the crawlspace. Next, our team used our PolyLevel rig to spray PolyLevel Wall Restoration over the fieldstone foundation. The team sprayed a consistent layer of poly over the fieldstone until it was completely covered. After the poly was completed, the team then installed the SilverGlo to the block foundation wall. Once the team installed the last section of SilverGlo the crawlspace was insulated. The next product to be installed was SmartJacks. The team installed 4 SmartJacks under the main beam in the crawlspace. The team first dug 4 holes big enough for our SmartJack footings. In each hole, the team poured engineered fill to support each SmartJack. The team will tamp the engineered fill and then place the SmartJack footing on top of the fill. Next, the team attached the SmartJack to the main beam and finally covered each SmartJack footing will more engineered fill.

The homeowner still needed to have the crawlspace encapsulated, but was very happy with the results of insulating and supporting the crawlspace. The homeowner set an installation date for encapsulating the crawlspace in the coming weeks.

Gloucester Canal Retaining Wall Repaired

The Blynam Canal Drawdridge had a retaining wall which was gradually having the soil underneath its footing washed away by the tides rising and falling. Upon excavating down to install a new foundation for a structure above, the DoT found huge voids underneath the wall, leaving the wall susceptible to sinking and allowing water to overflow. They needed a stronger base for their new structure, one that wouldn't be at risk of being washed away by the tide.

The DoT hired Erickson Foundation Supportworks to come in and fill the voids under the wall with PolyLEVEL. We first inserted pipes into cracks and crevices within the stones and wall, allowing us to spray in PolyLEVEL deep into the voids on the water side of the canal. On the retaining wall side, we sprayed in PolyLEVEL into the voids under the wall and between all the large stones on this side.

Although the water table could still rise up with the tide, it could no longer wash in and out with the waves or ebb of the water. Therefore, the water can no longer wash out the supporting soils, or PolyLEVEL, under the retaining wall. The wall is now fully supported and no longer at risk of sinking or failing.
