A homeowner in Lowell, Massachusetts has lived in a home over 200 years old. For 10 years, he has experienced water seepage ruining his basement walls and floor. Concerned about the health of his foundation, he reached out to Erickson Foundation Solutions.
Design Specialist, Victor Tapia, visited the home to provide a free home inspection. Although many people consider a French Drain (an outside perimeter drainage system), Victor explained how trenching outside the exterior of the foundation wall can be harmful. With durable soil being removed from along the foundation walls, the structural integrity is at risk, especially an old cobblestone foundation. This could cause basement walls to bow, lean, and even collapse. Victor instead recommended an indoor perimeter waterproofing system. This system is composed of our WaterGuard perimeter drainage, UltraSump sump pump, and CleanSpace vapor barrier. The system collects water along the border of the foundation and distributes it to the sump pump basin. From there, the sump pump expels water safely out of the home through an exterior discharge line. The CleanSpace vapor barrier captures any additional water that seeps through the wall and filters it to the WaterGuard system. With the wall encapsulated, moisture in the basement is also alleviated.
With a little TLC, this 200-year-old chamber is turned into a beautiful dry basement!
A homeowner in Woburn, MA, who recently acquired a property, decided to test for radon gas. The test results indicated levels exceeding 20 pCi/L, necessitating the installation of a radon mitigation system. To put it in perspective, levels above 4.0 pCi/L are considered harmful to health. Following an assessment by one of our Design Specialists, a strategy was devised to implement the radon mitigation system. The installation team promptly and carefully set up the system, which includes an extraction point in the basement and a fan that channels the gas from beneath the ground, through the pipes, and out above the roofline, ensuring it is directed away from the house. Equipped with a monitor to measure radon levels, the homeowner can now rest assured that they are safeguarded against this hazardous gas.
A homeowner in Hudson, New Hampshire experienced their fieldstone foundation walls deteriorating. With the wall bowing inwards, concerns arose regarding basement wall support. They reached out to Erickson Foundation Solutions in order to stabilize their foundation wall.
Our Design Specialist, Debra Rayborn, recommended installing an auxiliary wall to stabilize the fieldstone foundation. Our installation crew installed SmartJacks around the failing wall to ensure that the floor above was receiving the proper support. With the SmartJacks in place, the mold for the concrete auxiliary wall was set up. The SmartJacks were cemented into the auxiliary wall for maximum support.
With the SmartJacks and auxiliary wall installed, the basement walls are stabilized, and the rest of the home is supported.
